How to ride Bangkok MRT in detail. Here are the steps you need to follow:
- Purchasing a ticket: To purchase a ticket, you need to go to the ticket vending machines, which are located near the entrance of the station. You can choose the language of the machine by pressing the corresponding flag button. You can buy a single trip ticket or a stored value card (also called a Rabbit card), which you can use to pay for multiple trips. The cost of a single trip ticket ranges from 16 to 42 baht, depending on the distance of your journey.
- Passing through the ticket gate: Once you have your ticket, approach the ticket gate and insert your ticket into the slot in the gate. The gate will read the ticket and allow you to pass through.
- Seeing the platform: After passing through the ticket gate, follow the signs to the platform of the train you want to take. The signs are usually in both Thai and English, and the platform number is clearly marked.
- Keeping in mind while on the train after boarding: Once you're on the train, find a seat or hold onto one of the handrails if the train is crowded. The announcements and signs inside the train are in Thai and English, so it's easy to know which station is coming up. Note that talking on the phone is not allowed on the train.
- Getting off and exiting the ticket gate after arriving at your destination: When you reach your destination, get off the train and follow the signs to the ticket gate. Insert your ticket into the gate to exit. If you have a stored value card, you can simply tap it on the card reader at the gate.
Some additional tips to keep in mind while riding Bangkok MRT:
- Smoking and eating are not allowed inside the station or on the train.
- The trains are air-conditioned, so it's a good idea to bring a jacket or a sweater, especially if you're traveling during the hot season.
- Be aware of your belongings and keep them close to you at all times.
- Priority seats are available for elderly people, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. If you are not in these categories, please offer your seat to those who need it.
- The MRT operates from 6 am to midnight, and the frequency of the trains is higher during peak hours. Check the schedule before you travel to avoid waiting for a long time.
- If you plan to use the MRT multiple times during your stay in Bangkok, it's recommended to buy a Rabbit card, as it is more convenient and can be recharged easily.
