BTS stands for Bangkok Mass Transit System, which is an elevated rapid transit system that operates in Bangkok, Thailand. It is also known as the Skytrain, as it operates above ground.

BTS has two lines, the Sukhumvit Line and the Silom Line, with a total of 44 stations. The Sukhumvit Line runs from Mo Chit in the north to Bearing in the south, passing through the central business district and major commercial areas of Bangkok. The Silom Line runs from National Stadium in the west to Bang Wa in the southwest, passing through the business district and connecting with the Chao Phraya Express Boat at Saphan Taksin station.

The BTS is a popular mode of transportation in Bangkok, especially during peak hours when the traffic on the roads can be congested. It's a fast and convenient way to travel around the city, and the trains are air-conditioned, making it a comfortable experience even during the hot season.

To ride the BTS, you need to purchase a ticket or a stored value card, which you can use to pay for multiple trips. The ticket machines are located near the entrance of the station, and you can choose the language of the machine by pressing the corresponding flag button. The cost of a single trip ticket ranges from 16 to 59 baht, depending on the distance of your journey.

After purchasing a ticket, pass through the ticket gate by inserting your ticket into the slot in the gate. Follow the signs to the platform of the train you want to take. When you reach your destination, get off the train and follow the signs to the ticket gate to exit.

Some additional tips to keep in mind while riding BTS:

  • Smoking and eating are not allowed inside the station or on the train.
  • Be aware of your belongings and keep them close to you at all times.
  • Priority seats are available for elderly people, pregnant women, and people with disabilities. If you are not in these categories, please offer your seat to those who need it.
  • The BTS operates from 6 am to midnight, and the frequency of the trains is higher during peak hours. Check the schedule before you travel to avoid waiting for a long time.
  • If you plan to use the BTS multiple times during your stay in Bangkok, it's recommended to buy a stored value card, as it is more convenient and can be recharged easily.
